UAB Inaugural Alice Film Festival

The UAB Alice Film Festival provided an opportunity for Alabama K-12 students to create animated movies using Alice and submit them to a competition. Movies from the film festival were shown at a special event and awards were given in several categories. The film festival took place on Saturday May 12, 2007 from 3:00pm-4:45pm at Campbell Hall on the UAB campus.

Keynote Presentation

A keynote presentation served as a common event that united participants of the Alice Film Festival with the contestants of the High School Programming Contest.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Caitlin Kelleher, who was a post-doctoral researcher at Carnegie-Mellon University. Dr. Kelleher is very active in the development of Alice and tools that support storytelling. She is an expert in the use of animations for storytelling as a means toward improving the awareness of computing among girls.
