

Joseph M. Fontana Scholarships
The Joseph M. Fontana Scholarships are annual awards to students who have been accepted as majors in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.
Eligibility requirements:
- Applicants must be CS Majors at the time of application.
- Applicants must be junior or senior status at the time of application.
- Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 CS GPA and a minimum overall 3.0/4.0 GPA at the time of application
The scholarship award of up to $4,000 is awarded for one year (Fall, Spring, and Summer terms), and may be used for tuition, student fees, books, laboratory fees, supplies, and other items deemed appropriate by the selection committee. The award may be renewed for a second year.

Joyce Iannuzzi Endowed Scholarship
The Joyce Iannuzzi Endowed Scholarship for Computer Science majors was made available through gifts in honor of Mrs. Iannuzzi's long-time employment with the UAB University Computer Center.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Applicants must be CS majors at the time of application.
- Applicants should have demonstrated solid academic promise.
- Applicants should have earned a 3.0/4.0 overall GPA.
- Applicants can be freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior status.
Award amount is $2,500 total for undergraduate students for an academic year.
Applicants should submit a one page essay, which emphasizes his/her CS academic accomplishments, extra curricular activities, and career goals. A cover sheet with student name, address, phone, and email must accompany the essay.

Anthony and Barbara Barnard Endowed Support Fund
Dr. Anthony Barnard, CS professor provided a generous financial gift that made this award possible. Award amount is 1,250 total per academic year.
- Applicants must be CS majors at the time of application.
- Applicants must be freshman (first-time or transfer) at the time of application.
- Applicants must compose a one page essay that highlights his/her academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, community service, and state why he/she desires the award. A cover page with applicants name, mailing address, phone number, and email address must accompany the essay.

Scolarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
S-STEM is designed to increase retention and graduation rates of (CIS) Computer&Information Sciences majors. This award provides up to $10,000 per year for a two year maximum to help students who have unmet financial need after federal aid award.
Applicant requirements:
- Second-term sophomores and rising juniors with unmet financial need majoring in CIS.
- Students must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year
- Minimum (GPA) grade point average 3.0/4.0 in CIS courses.
Program Requirements:
- Attend career planning and personal/professional development seminars
- Maintain a UAB 2.5/4.0 GPA, a 3.0/4.0 CIS GPA, and complete thirty semester hours of coursework required for the CIS major each academic year.
- Remain enrolled as a full-time student (12-16 credits) each term of award. Failure to remain enrolled full time will result in the scholar reimbursing the full amount of the S-STEM award for the term(s) he/she falls below full time status.
