Admission Procedure for the CS Major

Students are admitted as CS majors upon declaration of his/her intent to major in CS.

After declaring your major as computer science, go to the academic advisor (room 117 Campbell Hall). This advisor will assist you with course registration.

Requirements for a Bachelor's Degree

To obtain a bachelor's degree at UAB, a student must accumulate 120 semester hours of academic credit. This requires completion of 55 core curriculum credits, 43 CS credits, and 22 general elective credits, which may be satisfied with additional CS electives. For a more specific detailing of the courses required, see Completion of the CS Major.

Transfer Credits

If a student has transferred from another institution with coursework completed prior to 1995, the student should provide the CS undergraduate advisor with a copy of the catalog or bulletin, which describes the courses in question. Course descriptions for college work completed from 1995 - current can be accessed on line. Each transfer course will be articulated for UAB credit. CS courses taken at another institution for which a grade of D was received cannot be counted toward the CS major or minor.
