Educational Options
Practical Work Experience
The UAB Career Center offers a Co-operative Education Program which helps students complement their studies by practical work experience. In preparing for a career in computing, it is important to obtain practical experience in addition to the more theoretical knowledge that comes from course work.
Research Opportunities
Advanced undergraduates are encouraged to attend graduate level seminars. The seminars cover research in programming languages, database systems, software development, computer architecture, parallel processing, theoretical foundations, artificial intelligence, graphics and image processing, and numerical computing. Students who are interested in a seminar area may obtain approval from the faculty researcher in charge of that seminar to take CS 496. CS 496 is a one hour course that can be taken 3 times for a total of 3 hours credit.
