Women of CIS Gather and Learn About Grace Hopper Conference

Seventeen female students and faculty associated with the Department of Computer and Information Sciences met over lunch on October 23rd to get to know one another and hear from two of their own. Doctoral candidate Vetria Byrd and graduate student Heather McCalley shared their experiences at the 2008 and 2009 Grace Hopper Celebrations of Women in Computing. They encouraged everyone to attend next year's conference which is to be held in Atlanta September 29-October 2, 2010.

Faculty member and group organizer Dr. Thamar Solorio hopes to make a women's get-together an ongoing event to encourage women.
