The Federal Trade Commission issued a press release yesterday regarding a "Notorious Rogue Internet Service Provider" that was shut down with the aid of researchers at UAB. UAB's role in the investigation which was led by Gary Warner, Director of Research in Computer Forensics, was significant enough to earn UAB a "thank you" in the press release. After giving details about the service provider which “recruits, knowingly hosts, and actively participates in the distribution of spam, child pornography, and other harmful electronic content”, acknowledgments were given to those who assisted with the case:

"This case was brought with the invaluable assistance of NASA’s Office of Inspector General, Computer Crime Division; Gary Warner, Director of Research in Computer Forensics, University of Alabama at Birmingham; The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; The Shadowserver Foundation; Symantec Corporation; and The Spamhaus Project."
