

Two students from the UAB Computer and Information Sciences department won awards for their research at the 2008 ACM MidSoutheast conference in Gatlinburg, TN.
At the 2008 ACM MidSoutheast conference November 20-21, our department was represented by five students:
* Eric Frees (Undergraduate category)
* Timothy Uptain (Undergraduate category)
* Hua Zhong (Master category)
* Lin Yang (PhD category)
* Liping Zhou (PhD category)
Congratulations to all of these student for presenting their research. Two of these students were honored with awards:
* Eric Frees: 2nd Place, Undergraduate;
Title: On the Implementation of a Novel Boundary Representation for a Triangle Mesh;
Advisor: Dr. John Johnstone
* Lin Yang: 2nd Place, PhD;
Title: Visual Summary for Tourist Attractions;
Advisors: Dr. John Johnstone and Dr. Chengcui Zhang
This makes the sixth year in a row that one of our undergraduate students placed in the top-3.
