2007 ACM Membership Drive
Posted on Thursday, August 30, 2007 - 11:08amThe 2007 ACM Membership Drive is underway. The ACM is the world's largest and oldest scientific computing society and the local chapter has been active on campus for nearly 30 years. Its mission is to enhance the learning and teaching of computer science within the CIS department, for all of UAB, and into the community as a whole.
We accomplish this by bringing distinguished lecturers to campus, hosting workshops, providing tutoring services, volunteering for high school and community outreach, and hosting several social events each year for UAB's computer science community.
In addition, ACM offers a wide range of benefits to its members, including a huge digital library of books and papers, downloadable tutorials, career advice and job contacts, newsletters and student publications, and many more.
The UAB Student Chapter of the ACM would like to invite all interested undergraduate and graduate students to join the group for the coming year. All leadership positions are open and we especially encourage undergraduates to join and run for the offices. No prior experience is necessary, and we need to significantly increase the amount of undergraduate involvement in ACM. We especially would like to see the executive committee to include undergraduates of all levels.
To learn more about the chapter, what an ACM membership can offer to you, and information on how to join, please visit the UAB ACM web site at http://www.cis.uab.edu/acm/
