
Will Whitney Awarded 1st Place at State Science Fair
Posted on Saturday, April 14, 2007 - 1:18pmMountain Brook High School sophomore William Whitney participated in the Alabama State Science and Engineering Fair, which was held in Huntsville on April 5-6, 2007. His project, entitled "An Autonomous Self-Parking Vehicle," was distinguished with five different awards and prizes.
Will received First Place in the Computer Science division at the Senior Level. In addition, Will was awarded the following prizes at the State level:

Boeing Senior High Computer Science Award

IEEE - First Place Award - Best of Show, Senior Division

Alabama Modeling & Simulation Council -- Third Place for Best Project Exhibiting Modeling and Simulation in the Senior Division

AKA Sorority - Second Place - Senior Division
Will and his classmate George Tankersley were also awarded several honors at the Central Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Both Will and George were interns in the SoftCom laboratory and mentored by Dr. Jeff Gray. The mentoring opportunity was made possible through collaboration with Mrs. Margaret Clark, who is the career technology counselor at Mountain Brook High School.
