Two MBHS Interns Win Prizes at Regional Science Fair

Two Mountain Brook High School (MBHS) students, William Whitney and George Tankersley, received several awards during their participation in the Central Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair, which was held at UAB on March 10, 2007.

William Whitney, a Sophomore at MBHS, received 2nd place in the Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics category for his project entitled "An Autonomous Self-Parking Vehicle." William received an invitation to participate at the Alabama State Science and Engineering Fair held in Huntsville in April. A brief video of William's results is available.

George Tankersley, a Junior at MBHS, received several awards for his project entitled "Programming by Voice in Alice." His project received the "Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award," and the "Yale Science and Engineering Association, Inc. Most Outstanding Eleventh Grade Exhibit in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Chemistry."

Both George and Will participated as research interns throughout the school year within the Softcom lab in the CIS Department. They were mentored by Dr. Jeff Gray.
