The Birmingham Chess Club (BCC) welcomes all chessplayers, especially beginners. We meet Tuesday nights from 6:30-10:00 at the UAB Student Center, 8th Ave & 14th Street South. Usually we are in room 411, but check at the Information Desk. When UAB is closed, we are, too. The BCC is a very informal club. No membership dues are required. Skittles play is the usual format at club meetings. Double bughouse is tolerated, when played quietly.
The BCC encourages membership in the USCF and the ACF. We traditionally organize three USCF-rated weekend tournaments each year: the Vulcan Open on Memorial Day (except when the US Amateur South is in town), the City Championship in June (a qualifying Swiss produces three challengers, who join the current City Champion in a Quad), and the Magic City Open in December. Several USCF-rated Quick Chess events are held on regular Tuesday meeting nights.
Richard Ellis is President of the BCC.
