High School and Middle School Summer Camps
Along with colleagues in the CIS department (Puri Bangalore, John Johnstone, Tony Skjellum, and Ken Sloan) I co-organized a 7-week summer camp for high school and middle school students. I am leading the robotics and Alice camps, and also helping with the Java bootcamp.

High School Programming Contest and Alice Film Festival
I organized the Third Annual High School Programming Contest for Alabama students on May 12, 2007. For the first time, this event was also co-located with an Alice Film Festival.

MBHS Interns Win Multiple Awards at State and Regional Science Fairs
Two Mountain Brook High School (MBHS) students, William Whitney and George Tankersley, received over a dozen awards during their participation in regional and state science fairs (including Will's first place finish in computer science at state). NPR Interview and Keynote Lecture
On April 3, 2007, I was interviewed on  public radio across three states. The interview was in support of a keynote lecture at the Eighth Annual Colloquium on Information Technology held at the Rosa Parks Museum Auditorium at Troy University. The interview and keynote lecture provided an opportunity to discuss the K-12 outreach activities within UAB CIS.

AMSTEC Board of Directors:
I have been invited to join the Board of Directors for the Alabama Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education Coalition (AMSTEC). The mission of AMSTEC is "to improve mathematics, science and technology education in the state of Alabama through the facilitation of communication among education, business and public policy organizations."
