Web Based Resource Broker with Application Benchmarking

Overview

While the Grid is catching on across campuses and organisations, users are still experiencing long phases of adaptability and increased complexity when using the system. Although users have access to multiple resources, selecting the optimal resource for their application and appropriately launching the job is a tedious process that not only proves difficult for the naïve user, but also leads to ineffective usage of the resources. As part of this project, we are developping a general-purpose resource broker that performs application specific resource selection on behalf of the user through a web interface. This resource broker is built as an extension to Open Grid Computing Environment (OGCE) portal with a simple resource request format. The application resource selection is primarely based on the user's application performace as retreived from the previous runs of the application/resource pair. In order to perform a short term load prediction, the application employs fuzzy logic engine. The final resource selection is based on the carefull combination of the two computations, again, using the fuzzy logic engine.
